June Beavertown Journal article

As we establish the “Local Pride in Lincoln Park” program, I am pleased to announce the creation of our website – www.lpinlp.blogspot.com. The site will include local photos, links to town organizations, and other items of interest to Lincoln Park residents. For example, there are two YouTube videos currently posted on the site: one from the 2007 Memorial Day Parade, and the other of a landing of a Cessna at Lincoln Park Airport, taken from inside the cockpit.

Also, we will be posting a monthly survey question, where we will ask your opinions on a wide variety of topics and post the results for all to see as a sort of barometer of Lincoln Park’s likes and dislikes. This month’s survey asks for your favorite baseball team. There are six choices; be sure to vote!

If you have any photos or other items about Lincoln Park that you would like to share, please feel free to forward them via email to the LP in LP committee. The website is a work in progress, and we would love to have too much information to choose from for the site.

In addition to the website and the activities coming on the horizon, each month, “LP in LP” will use this space to spotlight a borough resident, business or organization.

For this month’s spotlight, we look to an organization that has been part of our borough for 30 years, yet many residents are unfamiliar with them – even thought they may pass their meeting location every day.

The Garden State Circle Burners is an organization that promotes enthusiasm for the sport of building and flying miniature aircraft. Their flying site is located in the fenced area on Two Bridges Road located near the Meadows Golf Club.

Meet the GSCB, and President Mike Cooper:

How long have you been in this location?
• We have been using that site since the mid 70's (we actually pay rent to a private owner )
How did you come to choose this area for your flying site?
• We chose that spot because it's isolated, and can't be used for much else
How long have been in existence, and how many people are involved with your group?
• The Circle Burners have been an active club since 1958, and we have about 40 members
How often do you have events at the field?
• We fly every weekend, weather permitting, and hold about 5 contests during the summer & fall.
What sort of experience is required to get involved?
• We have trainer airplanes and instructor pilots available to anyone that would like to get involved in model aviation.
Is there any sort of age limit to get involved?
• There is no age limit!

Thank you to Mr. Cooper for taking the time to discuss his organization with LP in LP. If you are interested in getting involved in their organization, or just want to stop by with the kids (big OR small) and watch the planes fly by, please visit their website at www.gscb.us for additional information.

If you have a suggestion for future spotlights, please feel free to pass it along, either via email (acolaizzi@gmail.com) or through the mayor’s office.

Thank you so much for the support and emails I have already received and I look forward to announcing our first official ‘Local Pride in Lincoln Park’ event in the next issue of the Beavertown Journal!
